This may be in Australia, where they are experiencing the same problems with “Pokies” as we are with FOBTs, but interesting how gambling companies suddenly flood political parties with donations when they are faced with a clamp down.
We will have the same problem in the UK.
Medway Councillors have been invited to meet bookmakers to discuss their concerns over fixed odds betting terminals.
Cllr Mike O’Brien, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety and Customer Contact, said: ‘We welcome this opportunity to speak directly with bookmakers about our concerns. Although this began as a Medway campaign it has rapidly turned into a national issue and we are speaking to other local authorities who have raised similar concerns after our campaign was launched.”
Dirk Vennix, Chief Executive of the Association of British Bookmakers, said : “We welcome an open and balanced discussion about any specific concerns which might be raised about betting shops in Medway, and would be pleased to arrange a shop visit by councillors and staff.”
