Calling all councillors: table a motion and help Stop the FOBTs

Under the current legislation, Councils are expected to “aim to permit” applications for betting shops, even in areas where there is saturation. Clusters of betting shops have appeared on our high streets driven by Fixed Odds Betting Terminals – the addictive roulette machines on which it is possible to wager up to £100 every 20 seconds.

We have drafted a model motion inspired by Liverpool Council’s move to ban FOBTs from the City, which supports the Newham proposal made under the Sustainable Communities Act, calling on the Government to reduce the maximum bet per spin on FOBTs to £2.

Councillors wishing to support the Campaign and the Newham proposal should download the model motion and get in touch with Campaign Consultant Matt Zarb-Cousin for more information.
